BRIEF BIODATA:
M.S.Thakur is a Senior Scientist in the Fermentation Technology and Bioengineering Dept. at Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore. He has a M.Sc. Ph.D. in Microbiology from Saugar University (M.P.). He has published more than 75 research papers in peer reviewed journals and has 20 patents filed in India and abroad. He has presented more than 100 papers in national and international workshops/symposia. He is peer reviewer of several international journals including Biosensor and Bioelectronics. He was Visiting Associate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, USA and University of Maryland, Baltimore, USA, University of Lund and university of Kalmar, Sweden, EPFl, Lausanne, Switzerland, Institute of Microtechnology, Switzerland, University of Brunel, UK, and University of Potsdam, Germany, Univery of Malaysia Perlis.
During the last 15 years, he is actively involved in Biosensor and Nanotechnology. A Biosensor for L-lactate detection developed by his group has been transferred to the industry. The research work so far has focused on development of immobilized enzyme based biosensors for sugars, organic acids and pesticides, and more recently, on immuno-bioreactor based biosensors for organophosphorous pesticide residues in food and environment and also on development of DNA biosensors based on nanoparticles using quantum dots and gold nanoparticles. His group is actively involved in developing techniques based on quantum dots and other nanoparticles to detect toxins and pathogens in food and environment. He is also involved in biotechnological processes for the production of valuable chemicals. As Principal Investigator and Co- PI, he is currently handling several projects on biosensor research. He has guided several students for their Masters and Ph.D theses. He is a member of the Editorial board International Journals. He is the key person to establish Biosensor Society (India). He has been awarded L.G. Goodho AFST Award for his outstanding contribution in BIOSENSOR research – 2000. He was the recipient of best research paper award for the year 2000-2004. He has organized several symposia, workshops and short-term courses on biosensor, more recently, a National symposium on Sensors and Instrumentation for food processing. He is also a member of Department of Science and Technology (DST), Department of Biotechnology (DBT) Govt. of India Expert committees.
